Language and literacy

Our school holiday language and literacy group programs are designed for children in Kindergarten to Year 2. Facilitated by experienced speech-language pathologists, your child will join in engaging activities targeting vital reading and writing skills – such as receptive and expressive language and phonological awareness. The interactive sessions will include structured (tabletop) and play-based activities, so your child has fun while developing vital language and literacy skills.

What we’ll work on

The language group will target:  

  • Following simple and complex instructions
  • Expanding vocabulary
  • Using age-appropriate sentences
  • Answering ‘wh’ questions (who, what, where, when, why)
  • Social skills – turn-taking, sharing, playing cooperatively with others

The literacy group will target:  

  • Recognising and producing rhyme
  • Breaking words up into their syllables
  • Isolating sounds in words

Date: 14-17 April 2020 (4 days)
Time: 1:30-3:30pm (2hrs/day)
Location: c/o Children First, 24-26 Balmoral Street, Blacktown NSW 2148
Places: Maximum 6 children
Cost: $646.60

This program is eligible under NDIS funding, under the Improved Daily Living or Social and Community Participation categories.

Please note that in order to secure your child’s position in the program we’ll also need to complete a short screener (via phone) and arrange signing of a service agreement and media release form.
